July 2026: High Risk of Wildfires
Visitors to Seven Sisters National Nature Reserve are being urged to take extra care over the coming weeks to prevent wildfires after this prolonged dry and warm weather increases the risk.
The biggest thing visitors can do to stop the spread of wildlife in this special landscape is never use disposable barbecues or light open fires under any circumstances. Instead of a barbecue, bring a picnic or pick up a sandwich from the Grab & Go at the Visitor Centre.
Visitors are also reminded to properly dispose of cigarettes, matches, glass bottles and litter which are all potential ways a fire can start. Litter bins are located in our car parks and at the Visitor Centre.
Disposable barbecues can be particularly dangerous fire hazards as the ground beneath often remains searingly hot for hours after it has been removed, with the potential to ignite dry vegetation and posing a risk to any human, or animal, that might walk over the scorched earth. Wind can carry smouldering ash and embers from disposable barbecues, spreading the fire to other areas.
If anyone does see a fire, or the first signs of smoke from a fire, make sure to get to a safe place and please dial 999 immediately and request the fire service.
Thank you for helping to protect the Seven Sisters National Nature Reserve.
