This beginner’s course will be an introduction for anyone wanting to explore the magnificent world of UK wild bees whilst enjoying the iconic landscape of Seven Sisters Country Park, with its meandering river valley and open chalk grassland.
The day will start in the historic Pump Barn, Exceat. We’ll take a look at what makes a bee a bee, the different groups of bees we have in the UK, and how to identify some of our common species, including the Big 8 Bumblebees, Hairy Footed Flower Bees, Wool Carder Bees, Mining Bees, and more!
We’ll then cover some basic survey techniques and how you can get involved with citizen science to help monitor how bees are faring across Sussex before heading into the Country Park for some field practice of bee ID and surveying.
Meeting Point: The Pump Barn@ Seven Sisters Country Park Visitor Centre
To enable more people to attend our courses, we have a limited number of concessionary tickets available to those on a low income. No proof of income will be required.
