Capturing the Forest Exhibition

Join artist Kristina Veasey to experience elements of her immersive installation, Capturing the Forest. Discover her synaesthetic responses to the natural world and her innovative ways of navigating difficult landscapes to find well-being amongst the trees.
Through wild clay, natural paints, film, virtual forest bathing and kinetic sculpture, Kristina has been finding alternative ways to connect with the forest. Her current artist’s residency with South Downs National Park has brought new dimensions to her artistic practice, allowing her to collaborate and co-create with local people and find new ways to explore her local landscape.
Kristina’s work will be shown alongside work created by local participants in sensory art workshops held at the Seven Sisters Visitor Centre during the summer. Come and find out how they made their own paintbrushes and responded with natural paints to the sounds of birdsong and the textures of bark; or see their physical interpretation of water flowing and wind howling, through whole body movement. See how they polished clay balls until they shone like glass – and maybe have a go yourself? Capturing the Forest is a collaborative work by Kristina Veasey and Alejandro Ahmed which began as an Unlimited International Partner Award 2023 commission, made possible with support from Arts Council England and the British Council. It is produced by In Between Time. Capturing the Forest has been presented at Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts (2024) and was the headline show for Liberty Festival, Battersea Arts Centre (2025). This artist’s residency, workshops and exhibition at Seven Sisters Visitor Centre have been funded by South Downs National Park Authority.
